Food safety is an integral part of the entire food industry. Consumers, retailers, foodservice and government are demanding food safety programs that did not exist in our industry a generation ago. A comprehensive food safety program begins before crops are planted and carries through the food supply chain to its final destination; the consumer. To achieve a complete and traceable food safety system it is necessary that all elements of the supply chain including growing, harvesting, packing, shipping and so forth have a food safety program.
To ensure that the products handled by Chill C Farms are safe and traceable it is necessary to implement and uphold a complete food safety program. For the packing and handling elements of our food supply chain it is necessary that all Chill C Farms packers achieve and maintain Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). A strong GMP program is one that is implemented, updated and maintained from year to year and verified by periodic self audits and a third party auditing company.
Food Safety is not a static program rather it is dynamic in nature. To integrate and adopt food safety as an element of the company’s culture, it is discussed at every meeting and upheld by the actions of each employee including management. It is vital that food safety is understood and easily executed by each and every employee. Effective food safety training is paramount in achieving the integration of an effective food safety program so our program includes non-production items such as training of employees and training materials.
